“We can’t become what we need to be by remaining what we are.” - Oprah

Read that quote and then read it again and again (and maybe even again!) to let it sink in. It’s simple, but true, and our girl Oprah was dead on. You simply cannot become something different or accomplish something new if you don’t change yourself or your actions. Change doesn’t happen when everything remains the same. Change happens when you branch out, do something uncomfortable or work towards breaking the mold.

In addition to your personal development and life, this statement also applies your business. One thing we’ve noticed with many entrepreneurs (ourselves included!) is that we often put ourselves last, and this means we’re not pushing ourselves to change. We’re not even running the race. In fact, if we’re not focusing on ourselves and what we need to succeed, then we haven’t even laced up our shoes to make it to the starting line.

You might be wondering, what in the world does this have to do with PR or communications? And the answer is simple: If you’re not willing to spend the time prepping yourself and your business for success (aka making positive changes), then you likely won’t achieve what you’re dreaming of. You can take these ideas and apply them in many areas, but we’re going to start simple today, so we ask you one question: Is your business currently represented in the absolute best light - the light in which you want others to see it? We’re talking logos and websites, social channels and photography - all of those assets that you might have pushed to the wayside for some time. If this is ringing any bells, we encourage you to make a change! (Remember that change is going to propel you forward!)

One thing we always tell our clients is that they need to put their best foot forward in order to make an impact. Would you go on a first date without brushing your hair? Or would you attend an interview without preparing your resume first? The answer is no. You prep and you prep some more, so the same should be said for your business. When it comes to preparing your business for success, here are some assets we recommend you have:

  • A visually impactful, functional website that supports necessary capabilities for your brand

  • Active, engaging social channel(s) that give media and customers a place to learn more

  • An aesthetically pleasing media kit or one-pager that showcases your key selling points and can be shared with media, buyers or at events

  • High-resolution images (both product and styled when applicable)

Have all of these items updated and ready to go? Great! Lacking in a few and don’t know where to start? Let’s make a change together! We’d be happy to get you set up with talented people who can help with branding or logo creation or photography, or we could take the reins on media kit development (which is a one-off service we offer). Don’t be afraid to make changes, we promise they’ll benefit you in the end.
